The Nobel Prize 2020 in Chemistry Award goes to 2 brilliant-minded scientists Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna for their work in developing the Genome Editing Tool that offers a promise of curing genetic diseases. Emmanuelle Charpentier is a French Scientist and Jennifer A is an American.
The chairperson of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry Claes Gustafsson said that “There is enormous power in this genetic tool, which affects us all”. “It has not only revolutionized basic science but also resulted in innovative crops and will lead to ground-breaking new medical treatments.”
Gustafsson Explains that with the use of this newly developed Genome Editing Tools any genome can now be edited and help in the fix of genetic damage.
She also warns that this power of technology also means that we have to use it very carefully but at the same, it also equals that this technology also gives humans a better and brighter opportunity in the future.
Nobel Prize 2020 in Chemistry
Today, on October 7 the Nobel prize 2020 in chemistry has been distributed in Stockholm by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. They awarded the winners with a Gold Medal and prize money of 10 Million kronor (more than $1.1 million) The prize money will be distributed equally between these two scientists.
The Prize money was increased with the time as the Nobel prize was invented around 124 years ago and at that time a small amount of money was enough. The amount is increased by the committee with a watch guard of the present time.
“I was very emotional, I have to say,” Charpentier told reporters by phone from Berlin after hearing of the award.
This week on Monday, the Nobel Committee awarded the prize for physiology and medicine to American Scientists Harvey J. Alter and Charles M. Rice and a British scientist Michael Houghton for discovering about the virus Hepatitis C.
Yesterday on Tuesday the Nobel Prize in Physics was distributed to British Scientist Roger Penrose, German Scientist Reinhard Genzel and American Scientist Andrea Ghez for there excellent work in the Formation of Blackhole.
