Nobel Prize 2020 in Chemistry Winners for Work on Genome Editing Tool

The Nobel Prize 2020 in Chemistry Award goes to 2 brilliant-minded scientists Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna for their work in developing the Genome Editing Tool that offers a promise of curing genetic diseases. Emmanuelle Charpentier is a French Scientist and Jennifer A is an American.

The chairperson of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry Claes Gustafsson said that “There is enormous power in this genetic tool, which affects us all”.  “It has not only revolutionized basic science but also resulted in innovative crops and will lead to ground-breaking new medical treatments.”

Gustafsson Explains that with the use of this newly developed Genome Editing Tools any genome can now be edited and help in the fix of genetic damage.

She also warns that this power of technology also means that we have to use it very carefully but at the same, it also equals that this technology also gives humans a better and brighter opportunity in the future.

Today, on October 7 the Nobel prize 2020 in chemistry has been distributed in Stockholm by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. They awarded the winners with a Gold Medal and prize money of 10 Million kronor (more than $1.1 million) The prize money will be distributed equally between these two scientists.
